How the merge system works

Pickaxe Tycoon uses a 3-to-1 merge system. Three identical pickaxes merge into one pickaxe of the next tier.

The calculator uses the formula 3 to the power of the tier gap. One tier needs 3 pickaxes, two tiers need 9, three tiers need 27, and the count grows quickly from there.

You need 3^23 = 9,414,194,932 Wood Pickaxes (or their equivalent cost in higher tiers). Use our merge calculator to plan the most efficient upgrade path.
Is it better to buy in bulk or merge one at a time?
Bulk buying (Buy 25 or Buy 100) is more time-efficient once you have steady income. The merge cost in total pickaxes is the same regardless of purchase method.
How many pickaxes are in Pickaxe Tycoon?
There are 24 pickaxes total. The goal is to collect all of them by merging through every tier from Wood to Legendary.
How does the merge system work?
Combine three identical pickaxes of the same tier to create one pickaxe of the next tier. Use the Merge platform when eligible combinations are available. Example: 3 Wood Pickaxes become 1 Stone Pickaxe.
What is the Ore Multiplier?
A global value that changes every 30 seconds and affects ore sale price. The peak is 1.5x. Wait for the peak before depositing large batches of ores for maximum profit.
Should I upgrade pickaxes or the furnace first?
Always prioritize pickaxes. Better pickaxes mine rarer ores worth more money. Upgrade the furnace only once your pickaxe income stabilizes in mid-to-late game.
Can I play Pickaxe Tycoon AFK?
Yes. Pickaxes mine automatically. For full AFK, the Auto Loot and Auto Money gamepasses automate collection. Without them, check back periodically to collect and merge.
